Hey, we're on Google Streetview!

No idea when this actually appeared, but I think it's fairly recently — Cambourne is on Google Streetview. I think the pictures date from 2008 (judging by the lack of a church, for instance), and I did see the camera car driving round here that summer.

So one can now, for instance, give directions with actual photos to show visitors where to turn, where they can park, etc. but Streetview can only be as good as the coverage of Google Maps, which is unfortunately a bit lacking around here. If it's full coverage with masses of detail on a map that you're after, you need OpenStreetMap.

By the way, OpenStreetMap is built rather like Wikipedia, so if you'd like to take part — say, for starters, by adding house numbers up your street — send me a quick PM and I'll help you get started. You don't need any technical skill at all, just an eye for detail.

It all went live this morning for the whole of the UK (or everywhere I looked so far)

We're not on it - the car driver obviously couldn't be bothered to do all of our road! :lol:

I can tell that they did outside of our house in September 2008. Not too sure I like the fact that people can look straight into our back garden on it but hey ho.

looks like other new developments don't have all the roads on the map, but do have streetview & satellite view. Although looks like Cambourne doesn't have the satellite imagery updated yet..

You can see into our back garden too, and even worse, I was in it at the time! So Google Streetview now has a pic of yours truly having a crafty smoke out back

They've managed to miss my house - you can see it in the distance twice as they approached it from different directions, but haven't pictrues from driving past it.
