Posh houses not good enough for councillors

PLANS for an upmarket row of houses next to land earmarked for Cambourne golf course have been blocked.

Westbury Homes wanted to put up 35 homes in Bullrush Lane, Great Cambourne, next to land designated as a golf course in the Cambourne Master Plan.

Councillors at South Cambridgeshire District Council's Development and Conservation Control Committee agreed with an officers' recommendation to refuse the plans.

Officers thought the design, layout and character of the plan would not be in keeping with the Cambourne Design Guide.

They also felt that the 70 car parking spaces needed was too many.

Westbury wanted to build 22 five-bedroom houses in the area and 13 smaller homes - just two being two-bedroom properties.

Officers said two small dwellings did not meet the local housing need.
