RESIDENTS in villages around Cambridge are being told to put textiles in recycling bins instead of their green bins. Householders were previously told to put unwanted clothes, sheets and shoes into their green recycling box which is collected once a fortnight. But the council has found wet weather has been damaging exposed items so they cannot be recycled. Residents are now being urged to use one of the 12 textile recycling banks in the district instead. Coun Daphne Spink, portfolio holder for environmental health, said: "We want to help residents recycle as much as possible and to make sure that best use is made of all collected materials. Although residents were putting textiles into the boxes many of the items were unusable after being exposed to bad weather. There are textiles banks in the following villages: Bar Hill, Cambourne, Cottenham, Elsworth, Fulbourn, Gamlingay, Linton, Meldreth, Milton, Swavesey, Waterbeach and Willingham. |
