Friendship ends in violence

A 15-YEAR friendship is on the rocks after a fit of drunken temper.

Neil Sparks attacked best friend Marc Ali during a visit to Mr Ali's Cambourne home, hitting him in the head and face and leaving him bruised and swollen, Cambridge magistrates were told.

The attack has left Sparks, of Swansley Lane, Lower Cambourne, facing a jail sentence after he admitted a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm.

The court was told 27-year-old Sparks and Mr Ali had been friends for 15 years until the incident on August 11 which arose after Sparks, who was the worse for wear for drink, took offence over what he perceived as taunts.

Sentence was adjourned for probation reports and he was warned all options - including prison - remain open.
